Protein Snickers Smoothie
During my pregnancy, I found it hard to get tons of veggies down so I turned to smoothies as an easy way to get in a lot of nutrients, fiber, and protein. I made this protein Snickers smoothie, or something similar every single day of my pregnancy!
It not only gave me fiber from the cauliflower, but 20G of protein from the protein powder. It also curbed my craving for something sweet. It’s frosty, creamy, and super chocolatey!
Why You’ll Love This Protein Snickers Smoothie Recipe
A Healthy Snack. It’s packed with over 20 grams of plant-based protein. It’s also vegan, gluten-free, and dairy free.
Absolutely Delicious. It really tastes like a Snickers but is packed with veggies like cauliflower.
Easy to Prepare. The best part of making smoothies is that you just throw everything into a blender. This recipe takes less than 5 minutes to make.
Protein Snickers Smoothie Ingredients
Banana: The riper the banana, the sweeter the smoothie.
Peanut butter: This adds that classic, nutty Snickers flavor.
Protein powder: I have 2 protein powders I switch between (Nuzest Protein and Purely Inspired Protein). They are both plant-based with wholesome ingredients. I prefer using chocolate-flavored protein because it’s a nutritious alternative to cocoa powder. However, you can use any flavor you have on hand!
Frozen cauliflower: This may seem like an odd ingredient, but it adds so much creaminess and you can’t taste it! I like to buy frozen organic cauliflower rice from the store. It’s such a great way to keep the cost low and easily blend into your high-powered blender!
Agave: You can use any sweetener you want but I love using agave because of its neutral flavor.
Toppings:
Chopped peanuts
Dark chocolate chips
How to Make a Protein Snickers Smoothie
Add banana, peanut butter, protein powder, milk, cauliflower, sweetener, salt, and ice into a high-powered blender. Blend on medium-high for about 30 seconds to 60 seconds until smooth.
Meanwhile, melt your dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth and melted (should take about 60 seconds.
Smear the melted chocolate on the insides of the serving cup! Pour your smoothie into the cup. Finish with chopped peanuts and enjoy immediately!
Tips
When your banana gets brown and gross, that's the perfect time to freeze it! Just peel it and throw it in a freezer-friendly baggie for the next time you make this chocolate peanut butter protein smoothie.
Add more or less ice to make your smoothie thinner or thicker. You can also add a frozen element (i.e., frozen banana, cauliflower, etc) instead, so the flavor isn’t watered down.
Recipe Variations
Natural Sweetener: Instead of agave, you can use dates for your Snickers protein smoothie. Two pitted dates work well in this chocolate peanut butter smoothie recipe (especially if you’re pregnant). You’ll get caramel flavor and extra vitamins too!
Banana-Free Smoothie: If you don't have bananas or want a low-carb alternative, try adding frozen zucchini or avocado.
Nuts: If you are out of peanut butter or even allergic to it, try using sunflower seed butter (as a nut-free alternative), or almond butter.
Smoothie Bowl: Use this smoothie as a base for a delicious protein Snickers smoothie bowl. Check out this video for how to make a thick smoothie bowl for inspo!
FAQ
Are Snickers good for protein?
A standard Snickers bar has about 4 grams of protein. Although that’s impressive for a candy bar, it’s fairly low when compared to other snacks. In comparison, this smoothie has 20 grams of protein.
Can I store my Protein Snickers Smoothie?
This smoothie is best enjoyed immediately but if you have leftovers, store it in an airtight glass container. I suggest consuming it within 24 hours for the best taste and texture.
What if I don’t like protein powder?
Instead of protein, you can use Greek yogurt. However, this will alter the taste, making the smoothie more tangy.
