Homemade Bagel Chips
Try these easy bagel chips just once and you’ll want them all the time! I am a big fan of salty snacks, and now that I have a newborn, it’s hard for me to get out of the house and to the grocery store any time I want to. The other night, my husband and I were craving a salty snack.
So I looked in the pantry for chips, crackers, or pretzels and I couldn’t find anything. But, I had a bagel sitting in the fridge. So I sliced the bagel into chips and whipped up a high-protein dip! We gobbled these up in just minutes. My only regret was that I didn’t make more!
Why You’ll Love This Bagel Chips Recipe
Simple. I only used 5 ingredients for these bagel slices, and I’m almost positive everyone has all 5 of those ingredients sitting at home in their pantry or fridge.
Quick. These garlic bagel chips only take 12 minutes from start to finish, with just 10 minutes of cooking time in the air fryer.
Healthy. I paired the chips with a high-protein dip, so that it would be a complete, high quality and nutrient-dense snack.
Bagel Chips Ingredients
Bagel: This bagel chips recipe is super versatile so use any bagel of choice! Try using an original plain bagel, everything bagel, sesame bagel, poppyseed bagel, or asiago bagel.
Olive oil: I suggest using good quality olive oil. But feel free to substitute for avocado oil.
Seasoning: I use garlic powder and oregano. Fried parsley, onion powder, Italian seasoning and thyme would be really delicious too! Just use what you have and experiment with the flavor profile.
Parmesan: This is the secret ingredient to get them crunchy, cheesy, and super flavorful! If you are dairy free, feel free to swap this for a non-dairy parmesan alternative.
Everything bagel dip:
Plain yogurt: I prefer using plain, full fat greek yogurt for this recipe. It is creamy and packed with protein. Just 1 cup of greek yogurt contains 20g of protein!
Everything bagel seasoning: this can be found in any major supermarket now! However, you could make it at home by mixing together poppy seeds, toasted sesame seeds, dried onion, dried garlic and salt!
How to Make Bagel Chips
Use a bread knife or serrated knife to slice one bagel into thin 1/4 inch thick slices from top to bottom. You’ll be left with round thin slices, almost like chips!
Add the bagel bites into a large bowl. Add the olive oil, grated parmesan cheese, garlic powder and oregano into the bowl.
Toss the ingredients well to coat. You want to make sure the bagels are coated in the olive oil completely as that is what will make them crispy!
Add the bagel bites into the air fryer in a single layer. You want to ensure it’s not overlapping to much.
Air fry at 300 Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, flipping the bagel bites half way through to ensure even cooking.
While they are cooking, make the yogurt dip by mixing together the plain yogurt and everything bagel seasoning.
Serve the crispy, golden, and crunchy bagel bites dipped in the everything bagel dip.
Tips and Recipe Variations
Don't have an air fryer? There are other cooking methods. Bake bagel chips in the oven instead. Preheat the oven to 350 F, add the bagel slices to a baking sheet and cook for about 15 minutes.
If you don't have the ingredients for the dip, these taste great with plain cream cheese.
I used oil to keep this snack healthier but you can use melted butter instead if you prefer.
This recipe is a tasty way to use up not-so-fresh or slightly stale bagels.
