When it comes to French toast recipes, this air fried version comes out on top. It’s healthier than french toast sticks fried in butter and takes less time than french toast sticks in the oven. It’s not super sweet, but just enough to feel like an indulgence.

Why You’ll Love These Air Fryer French Toast Sticks Recipe
Kid Friendly. Children love this breakfast finger food. No fork or knife is needed!
Great for Meal Prep. It can be frozen easily so these are a great make ahead meal.
Easy to Make. You don’t have to babysit the stove, when you put them in the air fryer, it does all of the work for you. Especially if you have a parchment paper liner, there is no need to clean up! Just put a shallow bowl in the dishwasher, that’s it!
Ingredients
Sliced bread: It’s a lighter version of french toast because you can use your favorite bread! I love using sprouted seeded bread but you can use whatever you have on hand.
Eggs: Whisked. Dip the sliced bread sticks in this mixture so they develop that golden brown crust we love.
Milk: Use your milk of choice.
Sweetener: Use either agave or maple syrup. I personally love this with agave!
Vanilla: This adds flavor.
Cinnamon: This warm spice adds depth.
Salt: This enhances the overall taste and really makes the flavors pop.
Avocado oil or olive oil spray: Use this in order to prevent the french toast sticks from sticking to the air fryer basket (if you are not using parchment paper.)
Optional Toppings
Powdered sugar
Maple syrup or agave
Fruit of choice (like strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries)
Whipped cream
How to Make Air Fryer French Toast Sticks
Preheat the air fryer to 375 Fahrenheit for 3 minutes. Whisk together the eggs, milk, agave, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a shallow bowl.
Slice the bread into vertical slices, then dip them into the batter to coat both sides well. Spray the air fryer with avocado oil spray to coat the bottom, OR just lay down parchment paper to line the air fryer.
Place the french toast sticks in a single layer. Air fry for about 7-8 mins, flipping halfway. You may need to work in batches to ensure there is no overlap!
Finish with a sprinkle of powdered sugar, maple syrup, whipped cream, and fruit of choice on the side!
Variations
Type of Bread: If you are gluten free, use a gluten free bread, if you love sourdough, use that. If you want to be extra, go in with a brioche! French baguettes and challah bread are also great options.
Vegan: I have tried this recipe with a flax egg, it doesn’t work as well but it certainly still works. If you are a vegan, try using a flax egg! Use plant-based milk like almond milk, coconut milk or oat milk.
Spice: Feel free to use any other spices like nutmeg and ginger for an additional punch of flavor.
Tips
Do not let the bread soak for too long in the egg custard mixture. Otherwise, it will be soggy and fall apart in the air fryer.
Use parchment paper when cooking the french toast sticks. There are great liners you can buy from amazon to fit perfectly into your air fryer. This just helps with clean up and allows the juices to stay on the bread. Here’s a link to mine!
Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket so the french toast sticks have enough space to evenly cook.
Don’t preheat the air fryer with the parchment paper in it, or the paper to burn.
Storage
Leftover french toast should be frozen. Just pop them into a freezer-safe bag in a single layer, then thaw them in the fridge overnight or pop them back into the air fryer for 5-6 minutes to heat up for a quick breakfast!
